Third week on Vänö

I started this new week with a small dip in the icy water with Johanna, who goes there every morning. Everyone have to try this absolutely, but you must be really motivated...
Johanna is finally returned to her home in Helsinki, and I have finished clearing land of juniper, which now looks like this. And aches that followed in the arms and back, but the enormous appreciation of the finish work .
Magnus and me have also started painting the boats, delicate work, not to overflow, and in a position a little hard to maintain. But it goes fast, him on one side, me on the other. It is the second ...
I also meet Miss MacAbre, native of Scotland, who awoke out of hibernation on a balmy day at 16 degrees.
She immediately rush to the refrigerator... Well yes, hunger is felt after five months spent sleeping!

Second week on Vänö

This week, I helped Joachim charge for wood in the forest, we also had a bucket load of wood to move one step further with the tractor. Then we had to carry two bags of wood near the port. This occupied us a whole day.
I also took a morning to clean the apartment where I'm staying right now, waiting for a warmer weather, because I receive a visit for four days.
Magnus and I also loaded two boats with a manual winch to move the tractor, he has already put one in water, after to have install the motor, battery and checked the oil and gasoline. The other has to undergo some repairs before the launch. Soon we will have a lot of work to paint some boats.
Another big job to be completed in the coming days is to clear a land full of juniper into a future soccer field and places to camp, near the sea. Is an exhausting work, because branches and roots are tangled. Then, we must for reduce it, to cut the branches to make small pieces of wood and cover the ground. Thereafter, we will move the stones that litter the ground, and extract the roots.
As I said, this week I receive a visit ... Indeed Johanna came to spend a few days with me on Vänö. I also think that I must give her a big thank you for her help in the field of juniper. I'm glad she's here. We went to the beach to walk, and to discover the island.

First week on Vänö

For my first week in Vano, I began by giving my help to Magnus and Joachim to finish cutting the wood for this winter, and return the timber for the next winter in the workshop. Surprised to see me, Estrid, the daughter of Joachim hidden among piles of wood, very funny.
Then, Magnus and I helped Joachim in his house under construction. It was built almost alone, and received training for this, from his friends. I think it's a big yard, on a small island where there is a lack of raw materials and resources.
And now for Easter weekend, Tommy and Pia, Eelin and Stephano, Rasmus and Nonna, came to spend it with Magnus, Pirjo and me. A fabulous time in a great atmosphere.
Program: Easter egg hunt, egg painting, Monopoly, Xbox, Wii and tastings of Mämmï (thank you Joachim), a kind of brown paste made from flowers and seeds of cereals. Not bad
Then a good time spent with the guys in the sauna, always in a good atmosphere.

Every good thing to an end, Tommy and Pia, Eelin and Stephano, Rasmus and Nonna came away to the mainland.

If you knew how nice it is a family meal, even if it is not ours ...

The latest entrant to Vänö

Hello, my name is Florian Damour, and I just landed in Vano, for a mission of EVS these next 11 months. I am 21 years old, and I am French, originally from the Réunion Island in Indian Ocean.
La Réunion is a French department overseas, and is inhabited by over 800 000 inhabitants.
Located on the Tropic of Capricorn, it has about forty micro-climates, flora and fauna very diverse, and an active volcano, the "Piton de la Fournaise", literally the peak of the furnace.
